In January I started a new series for 2021 called Jumbo Blocks Rock where I take traditional 12" blocks, upsize them to 18", and give them a modern twist. Each month I've been also making a fun pillow using assorted basics from Riley Blake Designs. In case you missed them, here are the pillows from January, February, March, and April.
For this month I made a Sunflower Star Remix block which jazzed up one version of a traditional Sunflower quilt block.
I've mentioned it before, but texture is one of my favorite RBD basics! They really have some great colors and it blends really well even as a background fabric! Plus they have some fun new colors coming later this year!
I really like that Texture can go with so many different styles of fabric!
For this month's pillow, I used Texture in Orchid and Citron as my main pops of color. Then for accents I went with the 1/8" Stripe and Swiss Dot in black and white.
The stripes and dots add a fun flair here!
It's kinda cool how adding a pillow makes the block look a bit different.
There is something about a good diagonal quilting pattern that I love. It gives it a kind of sassy look.
For the FREE Remix 18" Jumbo Sunshine star block pattern, head over to my tutorial. Also, if you want a tutorial on how to do the pillow backing and binding like I do, you can get that HERE on March's blog post.
What texture colors would you use for this pattern? You can't really go wrong! LOL
I can't wait to see all the block and pillows everyone is making! Be sure to tag me @sewbrainy on Instagram so I can check them out! See you next month!
Until later, happy sewing!
